You are getting married in a few months. You have started planning for your wedding with your fiancée. And then, the subject of choosing your groomsmen comes up. This should be easy, what with all your male friends, relatives, basketball buddies, and officemates lining up to be picked. But then, the occasion dictates that you only need to fill in a few slots. Probably because you are not planning a large wedding after all (ideally, there should be one groomsman for every 50 guests). Or for the simple fact that you cannot just accommodate everybody. Who do you pick then?

In general, how do you choose your groomsmen?

One important aspect to consider in choosing your groomsmen is reliability. Groomsmen are expected to be present during rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. They are also assigned to escort the bride’s attendants and help the guests to their seats during the ceremony. Overall, groomsmen help you to keep things in order. Choose your closest friends and relatives you think are responsible enough to do their tasks.

Keep in mind as well that groomsmen are responsible for their own attire, and if they are traveling from another place, their own transportation and accommodation. Make sure that they know the financial considerations in accepting the honor to be your groomsmen.

If, in the final tally, you get to choose only a few of your male friends and relatives, you may ask those who are not included in the wedding party to assist in getting the ceremony organized. They may help in getting the guests to their seats or act as some sort of information centers for directions in and around the venue.
